Our Community
Our Community Engagement Model
Three pillars guide our grassroots work in Rwandan communities
Intergenerational Dialogue
Creating spaces where youth wisdom and elder experience merge to solve community challenges while preserving cultural heritage.
Asset-Based Development
Identifying and mobilizing existing community strengths rather than imposing external solutions.
Participatory Leadership
Training youth to facilitate community processes that elevate all voices in decision-making.
Community Initiatives
Ijwi Project
Amplifying youth voices in community development
Building on our All Youth Engagement model, Ijwi ("Voice") creates structured platforms for youth to contribute to local governance and problem-solving. Key components include:
- Quarterly community forums with local leaders
- Youth-led needs assessment training
- Intergenerational solution labs
- Cultural preservation workshops

Green Villages Initiative
Sustainable communities through youth environmental leadership
This place-based program trains youth as "Green Ambassadors" who implement sustainability projects in their villages:
- Renewable energy cooperatives
- Agroforestry and soil conservation
- Waste management systems
- Climate resilience planning

Ubumwe Dialogues
Healing through shared storytelling
Meaning "togetherness" in Kinyarwanda, these monthly gatherings use traditional Rwandan practices to:
- Bridge generational divides
- Preserve oral histories
- Address collective trauma
- Strengthen social cohesion
Youth document these sessions through photography, audio recordings, and community murals.
